What a big week it’s been! We Canadians voted last week, preserving our strong democracy.
As the city heats up, the cafe I work at has also been getting much busier. May Day, or Beltane, for instance, was a pretty big day, enough so that I found I had to take it easy when I got back. I did find lots of nice daisies though.
It’s been a good week for art and spirituality as well, so let’s get into it, shall we?
Art of the Week
The comic is still very much in progress!
In fact I recorded some footage of me working on it and did some voiceover to generate some conversation about the art community’s inspirations.
I also went to Cloudscape again, which allowed me to finish a page and also complete this character design of ghost Abby.
Art for likely the next week will likely also be working on the comic, but to avoid spoilers I won’t be able to talk about it as much. I’ll likely do something different for my weekly video.
Therefore, it is time to move on to the next topic.
Spirituality of the Week
There was Hekate’s Deipnon for Sunday evening last week, which was a bit rushed for me but very generative. Here’s the blurb I wrote on Deipnon last week:
“I also cleaned my altar in anticipation of Hekate’s Deipnon, or Supper, which happens to be later tonight (the dark of the moon). Hekate’s Deipnon is an event where we leave out offerings for Hekate and the lonely ghosts that accompany Her, in the hopes of building up positive relationships (Kharis) with Hekate and the restless dead.”
The day after that, upon the first sliver of light returning to the moon, I celebrated the New Moon by journaling and setting my goals for the next month:
Aside from Hekate’s Deipnon, and the New Moon, we also had Beltane, or May Day, but I was a little too tired from work and Cloudscape the previous night to do much for that. I stuck to just snuggling with the boyfriend.
On Saturday there was meant to be a meeting but it seems it was cancelled so I spent the time there reading Mat Auryn’s Psychic Witch and some other things.
I’m in roughly the middle part of Psychic Witch, and I spent the better part of an hour reading about the three part nature of the soul, and how we have three souls-the lower soul, derived from our ancestry and body, our higher soul, derived from divinity, and our middle soul, which is our present self.
I read the rituals and and methods for accessing each of these parts of our soul, and how to do needed soul-searching for our higher soul purpose and for our lower soul shadow work.
It was very educational but as with everything in Psychic Witch, I’ll likely go back over the material, more slowly, so that I can actually run through each of these exercises a few times. I try to be thorough with the kind of witchy book that has now formed the backbone of my meditation technique.
Reading of the Week
That brings us, at last, to our reading. I think this time I’ll do the Greek Oracle Letter coins that I acquired from VultureCultureCanada on Etsy. The messages attached to each of these letters is somewhat unambiguous, so I will try to add poetry where I can.
To release: Phi φ - “Having done something carelessly, you will thereafter blame the Gods.”
My suggestion here is that what’s past is past, and therefore there isn’t much point in blaming the heavens for your past circumstances anymore. Now is the time to release blame and anger and get on with your life.
To Embrace: Zeta Ζ - “Flee the very great storm, lest you be disabled in some way.”
Now is the time to be wise and avoid the trouble that comes after you. I suspect given current events that these are likely economic. If that’s the case, try to hold fast to your job, and try to navigate these tumultuous times with care-don’t take on any debts that you don’t have to.
Embrace: Nu Ν: “The strife-bearing gift fulfills the oracle.”
To a degree, one must evade disaster but embrace difficulty. It’s a key part of developing our character.
I actually wrote something about my opinion of goodness, and it includes some phrasing from the Delphic Maxims:
“Well, my sense of goodness starts with the Golden Rule found in many religions “Do unto others as you’d have them do unto you.” The Delphic Maxims do not explicitly contain those words, but they do contain such exhortations as “Be Overcome by Justice” and “Find Fault with No One” and “Practice what is Just” and “Shun Evil”. The Delphic Maxims also put an emphasis on excellence of character, with phrases like “Praise Virtue”, and “Be a Seeker of Wisdom” and “Test the Character”.
I think that goodness then goes beyond merely not doing harm to others, but rather lies in exercising one’s excellence of character-by bringing pleasure, abundance, and inspiration to others.
Virtue then develops over a lifetime, allowing you to do more with your gifts as develop your talents and continually create a better version of yourself.”
Therefore, consider this week to be a test of your character-avoid disaster, but not the opportunity to prove yourself.
The coins altogether:
I hope you found this reading helpful.
Conclusion
As the world continues to awaken, I hope to be able to continue to develop my artistic and spiritual faculties. I sincerely hope you have an excellent week, and thank you for reading!
