Hello everyone! Just yesterday I was at the wonderful convention Rain City Comic Con here in Vancouver!
I got the wonderful things below.
A lot happened this week even aside from that, so let’s jump right in!
Art of the Week
This week, I finally finished the update of the comic!
Here’s a page from the update:
The rest is currently on my Patreon-look up Mosobot64 on Patreon. It’s available as a free preview to members there.
Alternatively, I’ll be releasing this chapter publicly via Webtoon and Tapas on Tuesday. Look up Ohmworld on either of those apps and you’ll be able to see it!
The other thing I did, when I wasn’t laser-focused on the comic, was some sketches for my cartoon witchy persona.
The art on the second page with the “freckles” is based on some face sparkles I recently got:
Personally I like how they look.
I’m trying to put myself out these more, both here and on other apps. That partly involves aesthetic, as I intentionally play and try to bring out a version of myself that would be fun to be with.
But that’ll also involve me being a bit more open about who I am. To that end, I made this introduction video!
And now, onto spirituality.
Spirituality of the Week
I finished reading The Magic of the Orphic Hymns by Tamara Lucid and Rennie Pontiac.
I found the section labelled “The Charms of Orpheus” to be especially interesting. The poetry contained a common refrain, a password used to access the waters of memory upon one’s death.
“I am a child of earth,
And of Starry heaven,
But my race is that of heaven.”
This sense of longing for remembrance and for eternal blessed life predated Christianity, and seems to largely echo my own belief in reincarnation (though with the Orphics it’s uncertain if they believed in reincarnation, it’s believed that most adherents Hellenic religion did, and it’s a belief I share.)
I found this concept intriguing and wrote my own poem inspired by the Orphics, and also my own ethos:
A Password for Hermekate
You are an ant in transit
An animated speck of stardust
Flying about the cosmos
“You must be so lost, little one,
Where would you go?”
Hermes might ask us,
As he takes us to the house of Hades.
“We are a child of earth
and of starry heaven,
But our way is that of heaven.”
Upon arrival in Hades
There is clear water in the spring to the left
Do not drink it.
Ask Hekate for the water of the Styx.
“What is your oath?”
She will ask.
“We are a child of earth and starry heaven,
But our way is that of heaven.
This we swear.”
You will return,
Bound to be your best,
A hero amongst humanity.
I was uncertain whether to post that. Partly because I’m not sure it’s finished. It’s very derivative in its present state. Also because it’s a fragment in a philosophy that I haven’t fully worked out and articulated yet. But, this is the workshop, and I decided to let my close ones see my work, so, here it stands.
Reading of the Week
Today I’m doing a three card reading from the Celestial Tarot by Kay Steventon and Brian Clark, plus my astro dice.
Astro Dice: We have the moon in Gemini! This will relate to emotional intuition and relationships involving communication and wit.
Mind Card: The Queen of Wands (Fixed Fire). The spirit of Leo calls upon us to bring out our passion and deeply pursue that which inspires us. The mind is all in our excitement right now, dreaming up the passionate change that will bring about a brighter tomorrow. Will you answer the call?
Body Card: Five of Pentacles (Eridanus). It seems that our bodies may feel a little undernourished. Perhaps we’re feeling a little hungry, perhaps we’re in need of cultivating our talents so as to bring in the bread, so to speak. This card for the body signals the need to take care of physical matters, and call on people to help you if needed.
Spirit Card: Four of Wands (Hydra). Yours is a heroic tale, filled with triumph over the obstacles that lie in the way of expressing your spirit. But the Hydra always has a way of coming back and calling upon you to look deeper into your spirit. What are you most longing for? What does your spirit wish to accomplish this life?
To further contemplate, I offer a poem.
The firey rites of the mind
Bring forth our dreams in kind
But the river flows and tears echo,
Our poverty by circumstance bestowed
We dream of happiness and highest life
Hydra stands at the door, tension rife
Conclusion
Well, I think that covers all the interesting things I did in the workshop this week.
Thank you very much for coming along and sharing in my adventures. I sincerely look forward to seeing you all next week.
