Hello, and welcome once again. I’m exceedingly grateful for all the new folks who are finding this Substack, as well as those of you who support it financially. I couldn’t do what I do without you.
This upcoming year could potentially be very good. I’ve been taking this holiday season mostly as an excuse to get gifts and art to family and friends. Assuming we’re all adults here, I’ll show some of what I made below. There’s some artistic nudity but nothing explicit.
Additionally, I made another animation test for Ohmworld. This is more of an effects test, but I’m also working out exactly what thickness I’d like for the lineart. I definitely like the higher resolution; but I’m admittedly less sure about the thinner line.
I have big plans for the New Year, some of the specifics of which will be revealed to premium subscribers here, and to the good folks supporting me on Patreon.
But my actual resolutions I’ve narrowed down to five, and they are:
To be the sort of person I want to be around. I want to give pleasure. I want to be liked and with good reason. I have every desire to be desirable and zero desire to merely be pitied. I want to fine tune my fashion sense. I want to make my signature look completely fire. I’m tired of making excuses for being a lesser version of myself.
To be myself, unapologetically. I am an artist and animator, and make no apologies for these things. I am a classical revivalist pagan and a witch. Expect no apology. I am a democratic socialist, a liberal with a strong leftist lean. I make no apology for either. I’m also a proud Italian-Jewish Canadian and with all due respect to our colonial past, I still love my multicultural country. Please don’t expect me to change for you. There’s only so much I can change for anyone.
To be the best friend and lover I can possibly be. If I accomplish the first two resolutions, hopefully it’ll be easier to accomplish this third one. Fingers crossed.
Actually finish an animated short that’s at least a minute or two long. I’m actively working on this goal already, but again, the specifics and behind the scenes stuff is exclusively for paid subscribers here and for those folks supporting me on Patreon.
Focus my social media following a bit. Prioritize my biggest and best paying platforms. Improve my algorithms. Make awesome content.
In particular, I’d like to make tutorials for YouTube and put some great behind the scenes stuff on Patreon. I definitely need more supporters on both those platforms too.
The one tricky thing is integrating this platform and Patreon at the same time, as I have monetary supporters on both platforms. I think what I’ve decided (for now at least), is to treat Substack as an aggregator for my Patreon posts. Paid posts on Patreon will get bundled together as a single collected post on Substack, similar to how I handle free posts. In general, Patreon supporters will tend to get my posts faster but I want to make it so that supporters of both platforms get what they pay for, which is to say:
Super secret story stuff. 😁
In any case, although this year has been hard in a lot of ways, I think it’s been beautiful in a way too. Certainly it’s been one of my better years artistically.
In any case, I think that’s all I need to say for this post. Thank you very much for reading!
